What is Low Vision?
is a visual impairment that causes you to need more than just glasses or contacts in order to read, watch TV, or do other everyday tasks. It can be a frustrating and limiting condition, but with the correct treatment, there is hope. Low vision can affect peripheral or central vision. You may see dark spots or wavy lines. You could have blurred, fuzzy, or double vision, or you may experience trouble distinguishing detail in low light or when there is low contrast.
What Causes Low Vision?
Some people are born with low vision, but it can also be caused by health conditions that affect the eyes. A few of those conditions are as follows:
| |
• Glaucoma |
|
| |
• Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) |
|
| |
• Diabetic Retinopathy |
|
| |
• Traumatic Brain Injury |
|
When any of these symptoms occur often, or continue over a period of time, it is important to see a doctor.
