Meet Greensburg’s Favorite Eye Doctors

Eye care professionals specialize in understanding how the human eye really works, as well as diseases and conditions that affect your vision – many of which do not have obvious symptoms. Our Grreensburg eye doctors know how age and risk factors affect vision over time for young and old, and they understand the benefits and features of corrective lenses including eyeglasses and contacts.

Our optometrists take the time to explain the results of your eye exam, describe your options and listen to your eye care needs. Because maintaining good eye health is an ongoing partnership, we encourage you to ask questions and share your health information, which could be vital to monitoring, diagnosing and treating potential vision problems.

Chad E. Green, OD, FAAO

Dr. Green majored in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech, going on to receive his Doctorate from Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in Philadelphia, graduating with honors. Upon graduation in 1997, he began his work with the patients at Eyecare Greengate. He has had additional professional experience with The Associates in Ophthalmology and The Butler VA Hospital.

Dr. Chad Green manages the laser vision surgery aspect of Eyecare Greengate. In addition, he specializes in the treatment and management of ocular disease & glaucoma and excels in the area of specialty contact lenses. Dr. Green also serves as a consultant to various contact lens manufacturers.

In his free time, Dr. Chad enjoys spending time with his wife and three young kids or taking his dog on walks. He is also an avid golfer. Other hobbies include boating, skiing, swimming, and going to Steelers games.

Shalini Katyal Vilsack, OD, FAAO

 Dr.Vilsack graduated cum laude from Boston University, continuing on to the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University and receiving her Doctor of Optometry degree, graduating with honors. She received numerous accolades during her academic career, including the E.F. Wildermuth Scholarship and Pennsylvania College of Optometry Academic Awards.

Dr. Vilsack has been practicing primary eye care since her graduation in 1997. She is skilled in pediatric care, vision therapy, vision rehabilitation, as well as the treatment and management of ocular disease. She is also a eye care consultant to many local nursing homes.

In her free time, Dr. Vilsack enjoys spending time with her husband and two kids. Other hobbies include reading, scrapbooking, and walking.

Jennifer L. Sommer, OD, FAAO

Dr. Sommer is a native of Duncansville, PA.  She received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Penn State University.  She attended the Illinois College of Optometry where she was the class of 2008 Presidential Scholar and graduated magna cum laude.  She went on to complete an optometric residency within the Chicago VA System where she received additional training in Ocular Disease and Low Vision.
 
Dr. Sommer’s professional interests include treating and managing ocular disease.  She is also excited to offer Low Vision services at Eyecare Greengate.  Additionally, she serves as a consultant to area nursing homes.
 
In her free time, Dr. Sommer enjoys spending time with her husband and their dog Sam.  She is also an enthusiastic cook and reader.

David D. Green, OD, FAAO

Over more than 40 years and three generations, Dr. David Green has been providing comprehensive eye care to patients in Western Pennsylvania. Dr. Green attended Grove City College and received his Doctor of Optometry from Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University. He has been a consultant to the Veterans Hospital and a Fellow with the American Academy of Optometry for 40 years.

Dr. Green's knowledge and experience contribute to his thorough approach to quality eye care. He excels in the areas of geriatric vision care, specialty contact lenses, and the treatment and management of ocular disease.

In his free time, Dr. Green enjoys playing golf, but most importantly, spending time with any of his 10 grandchildren. Other hobbies include reading and vacationing with his wife of 45 years.

Although he is technically retired, Dr. Green frequently returns from Florida to check in with staff and patients at Eyecare Greengate.

Kaitlin Hurney, OD

Dr. Hurney received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA. She went on to Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL where she earned her Bachelor of Vision Science and Doctor of Optometry.

Through internships and continued education, Dr. Hurney has studied ocular disease, primary care, low vision and geriatrics, pediatrics and binocular vision, and contact lens fittings and the cornea.

Kathy Moon, Office Manager

With 35 years of service at Eyecare Greengate, Kathy is a veteran of the Eyecare Greengate staff. Her children have grown up as part of the Greengate family. When she isn’t working, Kathy volunteers her time with community recreation teams, school soccer and cheerleading.

Lori Ruff, Receptionist

Lori has been welcoming patients and fielding calls at the office reception desk for 10 years. Her favorite pastime is relaxing with her son; they especially enjoy heading for the beach with family and friends. Lori also schedules a regular family game night with her parents and her son.

Patty McLaughlin, Ophthalmic Technician

Patty has been an ophthalmic technician with Eyecare Greengate for nine years. She and her husband of 28 years, Shawn, are the proud parents of 18-year-old Emily. Patty loves spending time with her family and enjoys gardening. She also has a not-so-secret passion for creating fabulous birthday cakes.

Melissa is more than an employee: she’s also an Eyecare Greengate patient. She started her career as a pretester more than three years ago, and she enjoys her current role as an optician. Melissa devotes most of her free time to family and friends.

Christie Royer, Ophthalmic Technician, Billing

A member of the Eyecare Greengate team for nine years, Christie is the busy mom of two boys one 9, one 11, and both active in wrestling, football and basketball. Christie makes time to serve on her community’s Recreation Board and especially enjoys planning events for young people in her community.

Keri Radford, Ophthalmic Technician

Keri has worked as an ophthalmic technician at Eyecare Greengate for three years. She and her husband Pete have been married for more than 12 years and share the adventure of caring for two daughters, Lauren and Ella. They recently added Miley, a yellow Lab, to their family; when there’s time, they enjoy retreating to their camp in Cook Forest, Pa.

An optician with seven years of experience, Michelle has been part of the Eyecare Greengate team for about two years. Her co-workers value her enthusiasm, and patients appreciate her courtesy. In her off-duty hours, Michelle likes to hang out with her husband and family.

Michele Zaccaria, Eyewear Specialist

Michele is a recent addition to the Eyecare Greengate team, bringing 8 years of specialized experience in ophthalmic technology and eyewear to the Greengate team. As the proud mom of newborn twin girls, Michele loves to spend time with family and friends. Upbeat and outgoing, Michelle makes sure that every patient has a comfortable, pleasant visit.

Barb Minerd, Eyewear Specialist

For 23 years, Barbara has helped Eyecare Greengate patients select the right frames, the right lenses, the right look. Barbara and Chuck, who celebrated 41 years of marriage recently, are the parents of Michael and Joseph, the grandparents of Jessica, and the great-grandparents of Katielyn, 6, and Keilian, 17 months. Barbara likes to bake cakes,
and she and Chuck enjoy traveling. Most of all, she treasures spending time with family, ‘the light of my life.’

Bob Bonar, Ophthalmic Technician

Bob is our optical lab technician. He has been with Eye Care Greengate for 15 years. Bob is a specialist that takes pride in every single lens he creates in our on-site facility.
